The latest game in the series, Tales of Arise, comes out worldwide on September 10th. When they do Abyss and/or one of the 2D games they'll probably have an easier time pushing for a more substantial remastering effort because they'll need to do updates regardless and in comparison to Symphonia's sales/popularity they're effectively going to be brand new games to most of the world.A subreddit for fans of the "Tales of" series published by Namco Bandai! Tales of Arise Symphonia's probably especially hard to push for more because not necessarily ideal but functional HD ports already exist. I think part of it is they've attempted exhaustive updates or even full remakes in the past for stuff that was quite dated and in need of it, and regardless of effort and quality it didn't seem to make a huge difference in sales, so it's a tough sell at this point to get them to think it's worth it (the series was in a pretty different position back then but these wounds don't heal quickly I guess). The Tales team usually puts out one or two surveys after releasing new games to see how people feel about it and to get feedback on things like ideas they're researching internally and which games people want a rerelease of the most, and in my experience they're actually pretty good at being transparent about what kind of feedback they're getting and taking it pretty seriously for future projects.īut when it comes to legacy content, Namco just has a tendency to limit the series to low investment, high return endeavors these days, even if it means there are quirks in the game's content and/or engine that aren't going to be addressed. ![]()
